ABOUT

The Cleveland Browns are one of the Storied Franchises of the NFL. If you're looking for a famous Franchise to support with a blue collar fanatical fan base you can do no better than the Cleveland Browns.

The Cleveland Browns were created on June 4th in 1944 by Arthur B McBride and played their first games in 1946 in the new All America Football Conference. McBride hired Paul Brown as General Manager and Head Coach and the team was named after him. Paul Brown was a very successful High School and College Coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes.

The Browns dominated the AAFC winning all 4 Championships and then joined the NFL in 1950. The Browns appeared in all the NFL Championship games between 1950-1955 winning the Championships in 1950, 1954 and 1955.

Art Modell bought the Browns in 1961 and fired Paul Brown before the 1963 season. In 1964 the Browns won their last NFL Championship. Cleveland became part of the AFC when the NFL merged with the AFL in 1970.

Paul Brown went on to part own the new Franchise the Cincinnati Bengals in 1968.

In 1981 in the AFC Conference Game against the Oakland Raiders with the Browns trailing 14-12 and less than a minute to play, the Browns were on the Raiders 13 yard line with a FG to win the game. A pass play was called, known as Red Right 88, and QB Sipe forced a tight throw to TE Ozzie Newsome and it was intercepted in the end zone!

Quarterback Bernie Kosar led the Browns to three successive AFC Championship games in the late 1980's, but they lost every time to the Denver Broncos. In the 1986 AFC Championship game John Elway the Broncos QB led his team 98 yards in 15 plays to tie the game with 38 seconds remaining, and the Broncos won in OT. This has become known as The Drive. The very next year the Browns fumbled the ball on the Broncos 1 yard line with 1:12 left in the game which would have put them 1 point behind with a kick to tie the game. The has become known as The Fumble.

Tragedy occurred in 1995 when Art Modell moved the Browns to Baltimore, but the Browns fans fought to keep their name, colours and history, and the Cleveland Browns returned in 1999.

Two decades of Hell followed, but now under the ownership of Jimmy Haslem, General Manager Andrew Berry, Head Coach Kevin Stefanski and Quarterback Baker Mayfield the Browns are finally competing once more for Division and Championship Honours.

The Cleveland Browns have 11 Conference Championships and 12 Division Championships. They play in First Energy Stadium in Cleveland Ohio and their colours are Brown jerseys, Orange helmets and White pants. They are unique among all 32 NFL teams in having no logo on their helmets and are the only team to play in brown.

Browns fans are widely regarded by many as the most loyal fans in the NFL. Their stadium is home to the Dawg Pound which is the east end of First Energy Stadium. The fans adopted the name in 1984 for the east end of the original Cleveland Municipal Stadium. It was named after Hanford Dixon, cornerback for the Browns between 1981-1989, who along with Frank Minnifield would bark at each other and the Browns fans in the east end bleachers. From this date on the Browns have used a Bulldog as their alternate logo.
